Ninth Annual Gastroenterology & Hepatology Symposium

UC Irvine Health faculty and distinguished guest speakers will share their specialized expertise through formal lectures, a hands-on workshop and multidisciplinary case discussions focused on new approaches in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

This CME course curriculum covers the latest management options and endoscopic and surgical treatments in the following areas: bariatrics, biliary, colon and rectal, hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), pancreas and upper GI tract.

Learning objectives: 

At the conclusion of the activity the participant should be able to:

  • Apply the new advances in the treatment of obesity
  • Improve quality measures of ademona detection rate, complete polypectomy cecal intubation rate and withdrawal time
  • Establish reporting mechanisms to CMS-imposed colonoscopy quality measures to increase incentives and reduce interval cancers
  • Analyze and evaluate the most important new developments in upper GI diseases
  • Interpret accurate staging and relevant developments in the treatment of various biliary and pancreatic diseases
  • Analyze controversial issues in the multidisciplinary management of adult IBD to formulate optimal therapeutic algorithms
  • Identify current surgical options for patients with IBD and plan appropriate postoperative therapeutic management
  • Discuss integration of endoscopic procedures within the practice of hepatology
  • Discuss appropriate use and monitoring during treatment of hepatitis C
