Residency Program
The Department of Medicine sponsors fully accredited Internal Medicine training in both categorical and preliminary medicine. We also offer a full range of medicine subspecialty training. The programs are based at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, VA Long Beach Medical Center and Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. We also utilize a number of community-based teaching sites.
A number of characteristics distinguish our residency program:
- Comprehensive and innovative programs expose residents to extraordinarily diverse patients and clinical environments.
- Our evaluation processes have been cited for their outstanding quality by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
- Our ABIM board exam passing rate exceeds 95 percent.
- Residents have considerable opportunity to participate in the academic activities of the University, including broad-based basic science, clinical studies and health policy research.
