Education
An educational leader in Southern California, especially in the area of HIV/AIDS, the Division of Infectious Diseases trains medical students, residents and fellows as well as practicing physicians and other health care providers.
The division is home to the only Orange County site for the
Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC), a program that provides HIV/AIDS training to health care professionals throughout Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties as well as the city of Long Beach. Through this program, the Division organizes
HIV/AIDS on the Front Line,
an annual, multidisciplinary conference drawing approximately 300 attendees from the
region. This year, in addition to the AETC programs, the division hosted
“Bioterrorism and Emerging Infectious Diseases,” a conference designed for
emergency department and primary care physicians as well as first responders.
Clinical Services
The Division of Infectious Diseases provides comprehensive patient care at UCIMC,
the Veterans Affairs Long Beach Healthcare System, (LBVA) and at the Orange
County Healthcare Agency HIV Clinic. Division faculty have clinical expertise in
all areas of infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, infection
control, virology, mycology, parasitology, and bacteriology.
