Life in Orange County

Orange County is a coastal Southern California county, located about an hour south of Los Angeles, 2½ hours south of Santa Barbara and about an hour north of San Diego.

The living environment and climate in Orange County are pleasant as a coastal region of California, with recreational activities including those in nearby Newport Bay and adjacent beach citiesharborsparks, and mountains.

There are many local cultural venues, including the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, South Coast Repertory, the Irvine Barclay Theatre, the Orange County Art Museum, the Laguna Art Museum, the Bowers Museum and the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts.

Residents and fellows in the department have privileges as part of the UC Irvine community, including opportunities for learning outside of medicine and radiology on the main university campus in Irvine. Additionally, there are recreational opportunities through the UC Irvine Campus Recreation Center, which includes instructional classes in sailing and sailboat rentals at the UC Irvine Sailing Base in Newport Harbor.
