Pranav Patel, MD is prior President and Governor of the California Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (ACC).

Pranav Patel, MD is currently the Chief of the Division of Cardiology at the University of California, Irvine.  He serves as Clinical Professor of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering at UC Irvine.  He has also been appointed the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at UCI Medical Center.  He has also served in the past as the Associate Director of Cardiovascular Medicine and is currently the Director for the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program at UC Irvine.  He currently is the President-elect of the Board of Directors for the Orange County American Heart Association.  He served as Chair of the Quality Committee for the California American College of Cardiology and also served on the ACC National Partners in Quality Committee.  He is currently a member of the ACC National Membership Committee and a member of the Education Committee for the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI).

Dr. Patel is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the fields of Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.  He received his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine; his degree was conferred with distinction in research.  Dr. Patel performed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University / University Hospitals of Cleveland.  He completed his General Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology Fellowships at Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, Rhode Island.  He then received further advanced training in clinical cardiology and research at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital before joining the faculty at UC Irvine.

His clinical and research interests lie in the field of intravascular coronary imaging (OCT and IVUS), quality of care and outcomes, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease and preventive heart disease.  He has presented his work at national and international cardiology meetings; and has published articles in peer reviewed medical journals.  Dr. Patel has also authored multiple chapters in medical textbooks.

He has won numerous awards in teaching at Brown Medical School and UC Irvine.  From 2014-2022 he was voted a Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association.  He was voted Top Doctor of 2015-2022 in Orange County by Castle Connelly:  Top Doctors (Castle Connolly America's Top Doctors/Cardiologists).
